Detailed Job Description

CANA Energy is seeking self-motivated, reliable individuals to join our team for upcoming projects. The Apprentice Power Systems Electricians (PSE) work under the guidance of a Journeyman PSE to build their knowledge of high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switches and the control circuits for protection, indication and monitoring systems. The daily work involves gaining experience and understanding the installation of ground grids, erection of structural steel, assembly of power system equipment, cabling and wiring.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the Journeyman PSE to install and maintain high voltage equipment such as transformers, voltage regulators, switches, circuit breakers, capacitors banks, PT’s, CT’s, protection and control equipment and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems in transmission and distribution substations

Learning to inspect and test installed electrical equipment and apparatus to locate electrical faults and check their operation, using volt meters, and other electrical test instruments and equipment

Learn to repair or replace fault electrical equipment and apparatus

Gain experience in completing test and maintenance reports

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Apprentice Power Systems Electrician
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or Equivalent
  • Preference given to candidates with a Valid Class 2 Operators License
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment
  • Must work safely and follow safe work practice and procedures
  • Capable of working with precision instruments to “fine tune” equipment
  • Ability to understand the theoretical background of their work
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Demonstrated work ethic and be committed to superior customer service
  • Capable of safely lifting heavy objects in excess of 25 kilograms

 

This position is Safety Sensitive. Success candidates must be able to pass a Physical Demands Analysis and Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Assessment prior to employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

CANA has projects all over Western Canada. Travel and shift work may be required with this position. Be prepared for the possibility of travel throughout Alberta. CANA Energy operates year round and outdoors in all types of terrain and environments. All employees must have FR Personal Protective Equipment.
