Job Purpose/ Responsibilities

 

The Superintendent coordinates all site construction activities and supervises all field personnel as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. This includes maintaining the highest quality, supervising all trade and field personnel related to construction work, while administering good construction safety practices with all on-site activities.

 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and supervises construction activities.
  • Directs construction personnel to achieve completion of the project to original plans and specifications.
  • Organizing the workers and ensuring that they are performing as required.
  • Orders materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout the process.
  • Follows the project construction process to ensure that it is completed in time.
  • Supervises the subcontractors and ensures that they are punctual and that they deliver; maintains positive relationship with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
  • Ensures all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company policy.
  • Ensures that quality is preserved in the construction process and that the budget is maintained.
  • Writing project progress records in liaison with the foreman and/or subcontractors.
  • Maintains an organized job site, including the construction office.
  • Ensures that all necessary material is available to perform the work.
  • Encourages safe work practices.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of managerial activities.
  • Strong organizational skills with strong written and oral communication.
  • Problem solving: analyzes problems and makes sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and costs.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills with tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities.
  • 15 years’ experience in the heavy civil construction industry.
